We are pleased to offer Cold Laser Therapy at Coastal Active Health
Laser therapy is a form of treatment that utilizes red and near infrared light to help aid healing and reduce pain through a process call photo bio-modulation. By targeting specific photo receptors in your body, we can promote accelerated healing, reduce pain and decrease swelling at injured regions in your body.
Both Acute and Chronic conditions can be treated with Laser therapy. There are over 80 clinically proven treatment protocols available in our Theralase unit.
Some of the more common conditions include: Sciatica, Carpal Tunnel, Shoulder Pain/Rotator cuff injuries, Intercostal (rib) pain, Bursitis, Arthritis and Migraines.
Treatment frequency will be determined by the condition and its severity. Most treatment sessions take less than 20 minutes.
Our Theralase unit is equipped with 2 types of diodes offering different wavelengths of light. The 660nm diodes help boost cellular ATP production (energy required for accelerate healing) and the 905nm diodes helps to reduce pain (lipid absorption pathway) and reduces inflammation (increasing nitric oxide levels by 700%).
The laser light emitted is non-thermal and is rated as Class 3b (<500mW of energy). Unlike Class 4 lasers, the Theralase laser does not produce heat and will not cut tissue. We believe that this class of laser offers the best balance between treatment time and patient safety.
Laser therapy has some risks and your clinician will determine if this therapy should be used to treat your injuries.
Laser cannot be used on patients who are pregnant or who have been diagnosed with cancer within the past 5 years.
Care is also taken to protect the eyes from direct exposure to light emitted from the laser hand piece.
As with any therapy, results from Laser treatment are not guaranteed. Numerous factors may affect healing such as chronicity, age, nutrition and lifestyle factors.
